Job summary
The post holder will work under the supervision of the Recruitment and Retention midwife to support the education and development of our Maternity Support Workers. The post holder will help to co-ordinate the development of existing MSW's and those who are new to the Trust and to the care environment. This will include supporting staff to complete the Fundamental of Care Certificate (FCC) and other clinical educational programmes and support service situated learning opportunities linked to the requirement of the MSW role. The post holder will be able to prioritise duties under the supervision of the R+R midwife and be accountable for their own actions. The post holder will demonstrate initiative and ability to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision but must work within their level of competence.
The postholder will also be required to undertake tasks involving direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Midwife. The post holder will maintain a high standard of client care, adhering to all Trust and Maternity Services policies and guidelines.

Main duties of the job
To assist the Retention and Recruitment midwife to support the training and development of our MSWs
To improve the service user experience by supporting MSW to undertake the Fundamental of Care Certificate
To assist maintaining records monitoring and tracking the progression of all MSW staff undertaking development and training
To assist in to promoting and supporting the delivery of a range of generic and bespoke learning activities for MSW's
To sign post staff to information, advice or guidance relating to the learning opportunities
To provide clinical or developmental support for other MSW's by working clinically to maintain own knowledge, skills and clinical credibility
Be highly visible in clinical areas engaging with MDT staff and working alongside MSW's within in each area for 50% of their role
To Provide support, mentorship, and coaching to individual members of staff
To support MSW learners to overcome barriers to learning and provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills
To ensure effective communication between MDT and escalate any concerns or development needs in order to facilitate effective learning
To support the R+R midwife and education team to evaluate the effectiveness of learning activities
To provide support to the ward teams to identify and support areas of learning for MSW
