Job summary

The post holder is required to undertake training to enable them to carry out a wide range of tasks to support the Podiatry team. These tasks will include activities directly related to patient care such as assisting in Nail Surgery Procedures, clerical tasks and domestic tasks.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of a qualified registered Podiatrist, assist with patient therapy activities

Prepare patients for treatment ensuring a safe environment

To be able to accurately report back to the therapists any work undertakenTo maintain levels of and distribute consumable stock to clinicians/clinics

If required to assist patient with independent prescribed practice provided by qualified Podiatrists

To work alongside Podiatrists /other assistants to run patient activity groups when required

  • To assist in communication screens when require

Job responsibilities

Communications

To be able to communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of a qualified Podiatrist

To communicate effectively when giving/receiving verbal and written information

Report accurately on a patients condition/performance to a qualified Podiatrist

Provide routine information to patients and carers and know how to overcome barriers to understanding

Complete patients clinical notes according to Trust and departmental standards

With training be able to confidently communicate with patients with communication difficulties including verbal and non-verbal communication

Responsibility for Patient Care

Under the supervision of a qualified Podiatrist to assist with patient therapy activities

To support patients to carry out independent and prescribed practice provided by qualified Podiatrist

Prepare patients for treatment ensuring a safe environment

Assist patients/service users/carers/relatives during incidental contacts.

Evaluate a patients condition and report any intervention accurately to a qualified Podiatrist

May have to undertake tasks that involve promoting independence with personal care

To contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care by contribution to the identification of new patients and dissemination of information throughout the team

Planning and organising

Follow team timetable for patient contact time when required

Organise and plan own day to day workload or activities in order to meet the demands of the job role

Carry out tasks required to maintain safety, cleanliness and tidiness of all therapy areas.

Organise and prioritise workload in consultation with the supervising Podiatrists

Undertake clerical duties as required

Responsibilities for Physical and / or Financial Resources

Ensure safe and efficient use of equipment, resources and consumables at all times

To have a personal duty of care for equipment in the therapy areas, ensuring it remains clean and safe

Ensure adequate level of stock are available, ordering as required under supervision of qualified Podiatrist

Check therapy aids and equipment are safe for patient use. Ensure equipment is labelled and its destination entered in the patients notes.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development and Implementation

To be aware of, comment on and /or actively participate in changes on policies, procedures or service developments.

To embrace and support line management and the department in making service improvements effective within the workplace

Follow departmental policies at all times and provide comments on proposals for change

Contribute to service improvement initiatives and promote high quality care for patients at all times

Responsibilities for Human Resources and Leadership

Attend mandatory training sessions

Be able to demonstrate own activities and support new or less experienced colleagues to adapt to the workplace

Responsibilities for Teaching and Training

Participate in training and development activities that are relevant to the job role

Responsibilities for data and information resources

Update patient records according to departmental policies

Ensuring filing of patient records is completed as appropriate

Research, Development and Audit

Participation in audits and research, as directed, by a supervising therapist, to help improve the service

Physical Skills and Effort

Many duties will require moving and handling of equipment or patient (full training will be given)

Sustained physical effort will be required for the majority of duties

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trusts policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
