Job summary
The post-holder will work within the rheumatology department, assisting the already established specialist rheumatology pharmacy technicians, rheumatology pharmacists, consultants and nurses with the pharmaceutical management of their patients.
The rheumatology pharmacy team are based at Stepping Hill hospital and work closely with the rheumatology specialist nurses and consultants to provide care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work with the rheumatology pharmacy team, preparing outpatient prescriptions and ensuring effective safety monitoring, treatment efficacy scores and cost effectiveness. Training will be provided to enable their safe management of the medication advice line, liaising with patients, GPs and other healthcare professionals on medication and rheumatology queries within their expertise. The post-holder will assist in the management of the rheumatology pharmacy email account, addressing queries independently or directing issues to the appropriate team member. The post-holder will also be able to review blood test results and accuracy check prescriptions independently, following appropriate training and protocols. They will be an essential part of the rheumatology team and an important point of contact for homecare providers, the main hospital pharmacy department and primary care in relation to rheumatology medicines. The post-holder will often work independently, managing their own time and workload within the very busy rheumatology department.

1) To aid the rheumatology pharmacists in providing safe, efficient and cost-effective clinical pharmacy services to rheumatology patients
2) To manage the generation of prescriptions for rheumatology medicines, with a particular focus upon homecare prescription management
3) To manage the rheumatology medication advice line and email accounts, assisting the team with queries as appropriate
4) To monitor the safe use of medicines, ensure appropriate pre- treatment checks are completed and on-going monitoring is arranged as followed as instructed by the clinicians
5) To utilise Blueteq to ensure on-going compliance with NICE and NHSE funding pathways
6) Provide general pharmaceutical related assistance to the rheumatology team within their area of expertise in accordance with the Rheumatology Pharmacy Team Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
7) Will directly contact patients to discuss issues with medication and independently answer queries, via telephone, email or face to face with inpatients and outpatients as required
8) To work with the team to complete audit research and development within the area of rheumatology specifically in the development of a enhance pharmacy service
