Job summary

FULL TIME POST - 37.5 HOURS A WEEK

We have an excellent opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join our remarkable and dynamic team in the ISO accredited Biochemistry discipline. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Blood Sciences service to Stockport NHS Foundation Trust which encompasses Stepping Hill Hospital and other specialist centres, as well as community health services for Stockport.

The successful candidate will preferably have a comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge Biochemistry. You should be able to prioritise workload during busy periods and be motivated to drive the service forward to maintain ISO standards. The candidate will be expected to

  • To participate in the routine and specialist work of all sections of the department.
  • To be responsible for one's own work, involving lone working, participation in the extended working day and work out of hours as required. This is a mandatory requirement of the post.
  • To maintain a high quality of work within the department and perform quality control procedures.
  • To check the validity and quality of all results and processes in the area of responsibility.
  • To submit test results as required for the purpose of internal and national Quality Control Schemes.

Main duties of the job

The Biochemistry laboratory has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and IBMS training status. The post-holder will be expected to work on a full time basis on Night shift rota pattern to deliver a 24/7 day laboratory service . This is a mandatory requirement of this post Therefore applications from individuals with previous OOH working experience would be advantageous.
