Job summary

We are delighted to offer the opportunity to join our dynamic General surgery team at Stepping Hill Hospital. As an SFA you will be integral in leading the theatre team, embedding quality practice and promoting patient safety

You will:

provide a continuous, competent and dedicated surgical assistance to the operating surgeon throughout the surgery, while not performing any form of surgical intervention.

To practice as part of the surgical team under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon, providing essential leadership as necessary in facilitating quality and safety of perioperative patient care.

To promote clinical collaboration, enhanced communication and team working across the perioperative, theatre and surgical teams.

To act as a clinical resource within the operating theatre and across the Division of surgery as necessary.

To work as part of the theatre team if not booked as SFA.

To act as a positive role model, providing clinical and educational support to junior staff members.

To lead and co-ordinate the departmental team, taking continuing responsibility for the management and organisation of the clinical area.

Main duties of the job

To adhere to the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

To undertake non-interventional clinical tasks in surgical assistance competently and safely under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon.

To contribute in enhancing effective communication within the peri-operative environment.

To be actively involved in the peri-operative safety checks for all surgical interventions.

To ensure the development and provision of a good quality clinical learning environment that supports staff/students and continuing professional development.

To ensure compliance with the Trust's Equality and Diversity Policy, supporting the delivery of the Trust's Race Equality Scheme and the Trust's duty to positively promote race equality and equality of opportunity for disabled people ensuring services are responsive to the needs of equality groups.
