Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Estates Department provide a comprehensive range of Hard FM services to maintain the internal and external physical assets of our estate. Main duties of the job

The part you play

You should have a building maintenance background and previous experience in a managerial role; using your initiative you will be expected to respond to complex building fabric issues whilst ensuring best use of resources which includes the building maintenance team and external contractors to bring about a timely resolution.

You will possess a strong focus on statutory compliance and will be required to work collaboratively with our Compliance team to deliver a planned maintenance programme that will ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our staff, patients and visitors. Our ambition is to be industry leaders in the delivery of a HTM compliant Estate utilising modern approaches and methodologies.

You will receive training (if required) to act as Authorised Person in a variety of fields, you will form part of a team of appointed Authorised Persons across all Hard FM disciplines working with our external Authorising Engineers to ensure safe systems of work are in place and adhered to.

We are currently undertaking a significant 5 year capital plan to improve the existing estate; therefore you will be part of a technical team that will collaborate with the Capital Projects Department providing specialist knowledge and experience to assist in the delivery of various construction and infrastructure improvement schemes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Prepares specifications, procures, project management, commissions and evaluates schemes for repair and improvement of the Trusts estate, using in-house or outsourced resources as necessary. Ensures that any specified schemes are delivered to the specified quality and time standards, bringing together the multi- disciplinary facets of the Directorate and their respective clients. Focussing on customer needs to meet their expectations.
  • To have delegated responsibility for the co-ordination and monitoring of building maintenance activities to ensure the estate is maintained in such a condition that it fulfils its functions effectively, safely, economically and efficiently.
  • To provide day to day management of the Trusts painting and floor renewal programmes.
  • Manage the day to day procedures involving the annual wall-washing programme.
  • To participate in building stock surveys, inspection and repair as necessary to ensure compliance as far as practicable with Trust policies and Statutory Instruments.
  • Apply coherent contracts management procedure for the tendering and subsequent management of individual multi-trade capital & minor work schemes from inception to completion including as required the procurement of furniture and equipment.
  • Participate in the management of the Measured Term Contract, the associated safe systems of work and the communication of all performance and management documents to the Clinical Divisions.
  • Supports the Head of Estates & Key Projects Manager in the delivery of the Trusts Capital Programme by providing information on the existing estate, agreeing programmes of enabling work, inputting to health and safety plans and supplementing design and project management resources when required. Appoint Consultants from both engineering and building disciplines as required in order to assist in the execution of the Capital Programme.
  • Lead on the Trusts Equality Act and managing the Trusts compliance with the requirements of the Act.
  • Manage the day to day activities of the Grounds maintenance staff.
  • To provide cross discipline support to the Senior Estates Officers and their associated teams.
  • To be proficient in the use of CAD with the ability to create or change existing engineering drawings.
  • The post holder will be required to provide co-ordination and management to the multi-disciplinary workforce when on duty as part of the Estates Directorates rostered overtime commitment. As such the post holder will be rostered on in rotation with other Estate Officers.
