Job summary

Supervising the day to day operation of the Research and Development laboratory. Managing stability studies, validation and development of new laboratory methods ensuring conformance with ICH guidelines.

Main duties of the job

Providing technical support to all laboratories in QCNW for complex chromatographic and data handling equipment. Carrying out compatibility, stability and other development studies on pharmaceutical products and devising and validating analytical methods. Writing and reviewing analytical and instrument procedures in the R&D laboratory. Writing intermediate and final reports for the head of R&D.

  • Producing intermediate and final reports for the Head of R&D
  • Training of new R&D staff in laboratory procedures and operations.
  • Training of QCNW laboratory staff in the efficient use of chromatographic procedures and equipment
  • Acting as systems administrator for chromatography data handling and other computerised information systems in R&D and Quality Control
  • Providing technical support for chromatography equipment used throughout QCNW
  • Assisting in the maintenance and improvement of analytical techniques used in QCNW, in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Maintaining and dealing with the ICH temperature/humidity storage units and temperature monitoring equipment throughout QCNW
  • Ensuring the safe disposal of all waste chemicals by an outside contractor in accordance with Health and Safety standards
  • Ensuring that the R&D laboratories Quality System is maintained and applied
  • Carrying out compatibility, stability and other development studies on pharmaceutical products requested by hospitals and hospital production units
  • Devising and validating analytical methods for the study of new materials and pharmaceutical products under development

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Hons degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or closely related scientific subject

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in analytical specialisation or pharmaceutical QA

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of stability testing of pharmaceuticals to ICH guidelines
  • Broad range of classical and instrumental analytical techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of pharmaceutical analysis
  • Knowledge of GLP, laboratory H&S and COSHH
  • Knowledge of HPLC method development

  • Familiar with requirements of UKAS

Experience
