We are looking to recruit on a 12 month fixed term basis, an experienced senior operational leader to support the Executive Director of Operations in the operational service delivery of high-quality care for our patients.

You will be a subject matter expert in elective care with an up to date and comprehensive understanding of national, regional and local policies, rules and guidance relating to elective care (including diagnostics and cancer). You will bring expertise in working across organisational boundaries and a track record for innovation and change. You will be a patient focussed, credible operational leader with the drive and determination to deliver improvements in elective care, service redesign, productivity and efficiency.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Operations (Elective Care) will support the Executive Director of Operations to ensure the Trust has robust and effective systems, processes and governance arrangements in place for the delivery of NHS access standards relating to elective care (referral to treatment, cancer waiting times and diagnostic waiting times) and the delivery of the elective activity plan. Integral to this will include a good understanding and improvement trajectory on all productivity and efficiency metrics associated with elective and non-elective care.

The overriding purpose of the role is to support the provision of timely access to the highest quality patient care through professional operational and strategic leadership and management actions creating a culture of continuous improvement in accordance with NHS management standards.

The Associate Director of Operations (Elective Care) will support specific areas of operational service delivery, including the following:

  • Effective and dynamic capacity and demand management
  • Compliance with national RTT rules and guidance including validation processes and local access policies.
  • Escalation and management processes
  • Leadership of improvement programmes related to elective care including productivity and efficiency metrics, using national benchmarking tools.
  • Represent the Trust at System / Regional / National Forums
