Job summary
An experienced optometrist is required to cover 12 months maternity leave for 15 hours weekly in Stepping Hill Hospital Ophthalmology clinics.
Working with the Consultant Ophthalmologist body, The Head Orthoptist and the Business Group, the post holder will be working within a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnosis and management of patients attending ophthalmology clinics.
Providing assessment, diagnosis and management for patients with a wide variety of eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, retinal pathology and anterior eye conditions and developing and implementing effective treatment plans for ophthalmology patients.
To participate in, and helping to develop the optometrist's role in co-managed care to reduce pressure on Consultant Ophthalmologist's clinics to meet the changing needs of the Ophthalmology department.
Main duties of the job
To deliver a high quality clinical service in line with professional guidelines in the following areas:
Co-managed Ophthalmology/Optometry clinics - to work in the Ophthalmology clinics in liaison with the Consultant Ophthalmologists to reduce pressure on Ophthalmology clinics.
To be an autonomous practitioner making judgments and decisions on examination and treatment.
To undertake highly specialise clinical activity, using advanced techniques.
To make and implement treatment plans for patients of all ages using clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and following departmental protocols.
To determine clinical diagnosis and develop effective management/treatment plans.
To provide Optometry support for other specific services such as post-op cataract and hydroxychloroquine screening.
To develop and maintain quality assurance standards, clinical governance and clinical risk of both department and Trust.
