Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional staff nurse to come and join our small friendly team.

The role will be varied working within both the Day Hospital and the Outpatient department within Marjory Warren Unit.

You will be working closely withvarious teamsto offer the best care for our patients onan out patient / day casebasis.

The team is dedicated to maintaining high standards promoting the Trusts values and standards.

Main duties of the job

The Marjory Warren Unit offers both day care treatments and out patient services for a variety of services with in the trust and external trusts

Staff are expected to work between these two areas to ensure a fluid workforce within the unit.

Working in the day hospital you will be administrating various treatments , working with our colleagues in Rheumatology, Haematology, and Medicine.

As the trained nurse on the out patient area you will be expected to manage the patient flow, liaise with different departments and the public offering a first class service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Band5 Day Hospital

Blood forms and name bands daily

Allocation of patients (duties include cannulation, documentation, assessments of allocated patients)

Venepuncture

Observations

Ensure patient flow through the day hospital

Liaise with medical team / aseptic dept. /pharmacy regards treatment

Answer any phone enquires to the best of their ability

Manage appointments ensuring there is maximum capacity at all times where possible

EpMA ordering and administration of drugs/ IVIs

Monitoring of infusions

Ensure that all documentation / assessments is completed as per trust policy (countersign HCAs documentation)

Assist with patient care when needed

Allocate staff break and lunch times

Prior to discharge ensure all documentation is completed cannula and name band have been removed

Band 5 Out- Patients

Update board in waiting area

Allocate rooms according to clinic template found on wall in assessment room normally done the night before

Collect notes from admin office

Ensure that all notes are present for clinics. If not liaise with admin team

Highlight which appointments are telephone / conference calls

Check if any TIA appointments have ECGs on Advantis (mainly A&E referrals)

Co -ordinate the running of Out Patients ensuring timely patient flow

Manage the numbers in the waiting room

Assess each patient individually to see if they need a relative/ carer with them in the clinic

Deal with any issues relating to clinics promptly. Discuss if needed with nurse in charge in the absence of Unit Manager. Any other issues that cannot be dealt with on the unit contact Matron via bleep system.

Ensure confidentiality at all times

No notes to be left unattended, assessment room locked when not manned

Work with HCA colleagues with all aspects of care within the OPD

Assist in Day Hospital if required

Rheumatology Injection lists Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Prepare room for injection ensuring drugs are kept safe ie room is locked and not left unattended

Injection list and patient information sheet

Once injections are complete ensure that drugs returned to treatment room and put away

Room cleaned and linen removed
