Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dynamic and committed individual to join our clinical education team. We are looking to appoint a Clinical Education Practitioner who is an experienced registered nurse or midwife with experience of teaching and wants to help make a difference in the development and support of our clinical workforce. You will work as part of a team to support the development of evidenced-based clinical education and competence in line with within National, local and Trust policy and support staff including overseas nurses in their transition to working within the NHS and preparation for NMC registration.

Main duties of the job

  • Contributing to the delivery of core clinical educational programmes including clinical induction programmes
  • Taking a lead in the planning and delivery of clinical skills teaching programmes
  • Support, coaching and assessment in the workplace for clinical team members
  • Supporting the delivery of the Care Certificate programme and supporting new care assistants in their introduction to the organisation
  • Supporting Assistant Practitioners in their transition to professional practice
  • Supporting International Nurse recruits through the process of transitioning to working in an NHS environment and obtaining NMC registration.
  • Working alongside project teams and specialists to provide tailored educational support to clinical teams as part of quality improvement and organisational change initiatives.
  • Supporting the Practice Education Lead and Clinical Skills Lead to develop new ways of delivering clinical education and assessment across the organisation.

Responsibility for Patient Care/Clinical Duties
  1. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skill and understanding of clinical practice within a range of clinical areas across the Trust, acting as a resource and role model to a wide range of colleagues.
  2. Promote a holistic approach to care that is current, effective and research-based in accordance with trust policies and procedures in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Ensure the NMC and Trust standards for learning, development and assessment are implemented and embedded into nursing practice.
  4. Work alongside clinical staff, providing support, coaching, role modelling and education.
  5. Whilst supporting and educating staff, the post holder will continue to maintain a high standard of patient care, ensuring patient safety at all times.

  7. Engage in the development of clinical nursing/midwifery practices and to be responsible for monitoring and evaluating clinical activity in conjunction with other senior staff.
  8. To provide support to the organisation in the coordination and delivery of practice-based education and continuing professional development for staff at various levels, including induction and assessment.
Planning and organising/Professional Duties
  1. Provide clinical advice, guidance and support for staff.
  2. Support international Nurse recruits in their transition to working within the NHS and the process of obtaining NMC registration including the planning of appropriate induction and preparation programmes.
  3. Raise awareness of trust policies and procedures and adhere to these at all times within your professional practice.
  4. Report clinical incidents and accidents in accordance with trust policy.
  5. Work closely with our clinical skills trainer to develop and review educational opportunities for new and existing clinical staff within the organisation.

  8. To participate and support research trials, clinical audit and practice development.
Responsibilities for Physical and/or Financial Resources
  1. Be responsible for the maintenance and management of clinical training resources and or manikins
  2. Identify where additional/ updated resources may be required in order to support education delivery and raise this with the Clinical Skills Lead and Learning and Development Manager
  3. Be responsible for the ordering of clinical consumables needed to support learning.
Responsibilities for Human Resources and Leadership/Managerial Duties
  1. Work as a senior member of the clinical education team, leading by example and supporting other members of the team to develop their potential.
  2. Participate in meetings at various levels where invited, including deputising for other members of the Education, Learning and Organisational Development Team as needed.
  3. Take on line management responsibility for individuals within the team.
Responsibilities for Teaching and Training
  1. Plan, deliver and evaluate education and training sessions for a variety of clinical topics and skills including update sessions for more experienced practitioners.
  2. Contribute to the delivery of the Trusts clinical induction and mandatory training programmes as appropriate.
  3. Promote and actively support the assessment of clinical competence in the workplace, including ring-fencing time to directly supervise individuals in their usual clinical environment where appropriate.
  4. Have a role in the ongoing development, organisation and delivery of a programme of education and support designed to assist international Nurse recruits in their transition to working within the NHS and the process of obtaining NMC registration.
  5. Provide educational support and interaction via a range of methods, becoming proficient in a number of these and be able to determine appropriate strategies for different educational initiatives to meet the needs of the organisation and our clinical practitioners.
Research, Development and Audit/Quality Improvement
  1. Contribute to educational governance processes, including peer review of teaching and promote excellence in education and training across all of our programmes
