Job summary

15 hours per week 5 x 3 hour shifts Monday to Sunday11.30 to 14.45 or 16.30 to 19.45.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the catering department at Stockport NHS Trust. The role is part of the team providing the lunchtime service on site. The role breaks down into two parts it involves working on a conveyor belt assembling patient meal request`s, the sanitising and cleaning the crockery and cutlery upon returning from the wards.

You will be paid enhanced rates for weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

To provide a hands on contribution to all areas within the catering department for maintaining the hygienic standards of food and beverage production and service. Undertake the cleaning of the main kitchens, restaurants, retail outlets and involvement in supporting the patient food service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake food service duties in staff kitchen and visitor restaurant and all other retail outlets.
  • To assist in the patient and restaurant food production kitchen as directed by the management team (preparation, cooking and storing).
  • Assist in the service of food items as required.
  • To prepare the patient meal service area with the necessary service equipment, cutlery, crockery meal trays, food etc. Portioning, plating and service of Patients Meals.
  • To ensure that all food is served is of a high standard, mindful of portion control, meal content, correct temperatures and food presentation.
  • To assist with the safe and effective cleaning of meal service areas and equipment after service.
  • To operate cash tills (EPOS) ensuring adherence and compliance with the trusts cash handling policy
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries, recording messages and referring calls within the department as appropriate.
  • Undertake temperature monitoring and complete the necessary documentation as required.
  • To attend in-house and external training sessions as required
  • To be responsible for the correct operation of cleaning equipment and dish washing and pot washing machinery
  • Refilling and cleaning of the hot food vending machine and the recording of food loaded.
  • To be able to dismantle and reassemble equipment being cleaned.
  • Carrying out cleaning duties in accordance with Departmental Specifications and cleaning schedules. (Pan wash, Kitchen cleaning, Fridge/freezer, Stores...etc.) .
  • Disposing of food waste and refuse safely and hygienically.
  • Assist in the cleaning of all containers, crockery, and cutlery used in the service to Patients, Staff, and Visitors.
  • To undertake basic food preparation duties, including breakfast production, preparing vegetables, fruit, salads, sandwiches, filled rolls and items for cold buffets etc.
  • To serve and present meals and beverages in a friendly and courteous manner at all times and refer any complaints immediately to a supervisor or manager.
  • To report any accidents/ incidents immediately to a supervisor or manager.
  • To undertake training of colleagues through demonstrations and working alongside them.
  • The post holder will be required to work in any section of the catering department as directed by the management team and carry out cleaning and associated duties appropriate to that section.
  • Using the uniforms provided and meeting the required standards of dress including the displaying of name badge
