Stockport NHS Trust is located within the Southern part of Greater Manchester, an exciting and thriving cosmopolitan area.
Applications are invited for the above position, to commence as soon as possible. This is a post within an expanding and enthusiastic Ophthalmology team, for Ophthalmology Services.
This post will join the existing consultant team to help shape the expanding Ophthalmic service. The post will be based at Stepping Hill Hospital and may in future include sessions at other locations in the catchment area. The department is also supported by a number of highly trained Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Optometrists and an Orthoptic department. The post holder will also be required to participate fully in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and will also be expected to promote clinical governance within the Ophthalmology department.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and it is required that you have, or be within 6 months of attaining your CCST at the time of the interview.
The successful applicant will be issued with a contract which reflects the potential requirement for out of hours or weekend working. Any requirement to work out of hours is detailed in the job advert / job description for this post and will be discussed fully with the successful applicant on appointment. This is a deviation from the national standard consultant contract.

Job responsibilities
The post is predominantly based at Stepping Hill Hospital although sessions may be required in other locations.
The successful candidate will undertake ward rounds at Stepping Hill Hospital in accordance with the dictates of clinical necessity and the need to organise 2 operating sessions per week.
There will be 2 fixed operating sessions per week. There will also be 4 outpatient clinics each week comprising of both new and follow up patients. The post is centred on service provision in glaucoma and general ophthalmology. At least 1 clinic will be a general clinic and 1 clinic will be an urgency clinic.
The appointee will undertake on call duties.
If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
