Job summary

We have an exciting new post available in our Anaesthetics department, could you be next for this Vascular Consultant post? This is an excellent opportunity to join the Anaesthetics department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. We strive to challenge our existing working practices and to constantly improve our service to deliver best practice guidance and to ensure that our patient outcomes are successful, and they feel valued during their visits to the Trust. We have 1 WTE post that is available based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, comprising 10 programmed activities (PAs), 0.96 additional programmed activities and an on-call commitment. The new Vascular Hybrid theatre is due to open in early summer '24 and we will be providing the vascular service for our region, both elective and emergency. This post is suitable for those with an interest in vascular anaesthesia but also keen to remain part of the general anaesthetic team. An interest in pre-operative care and pathways, including CPET is desirable. The successful applicant will be part of the general on call team, which includes obstetric care.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for a consultant with an interest in General Anaesthesia, Vascular Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine.

The post-holder will be expected to work-up complex surgical patients in the perioperative period and be familiar with the use and interpretation of CPET. The post-holder is required to be skilled in all aspects (elective and emergency) of vascular anaesthesia undertaken at ENHT; to include, endovascular & open anaeurysms, carotid endarterectomy, limb revascularization procedures and renal access surgery. The post-holder should be confident in regional anaesthetic techniques to facilitate surgery if this is of benefit.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working patterns, undertaking clinical work on any site when required. A strong commitment to the training and education of trainees and other staff members is also expected.
