Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Palliative Medicine based at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. This is a substantive post which could be either full time (10 PAs) or part time comprising 8 programmed activities (8 PAs). Mount Vernon is a well-respected cancer centre, providing care to over 5,000 new patients a year, based in Northwood, Middlesex. It is currently run by East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust (ENHT) and is in the process of merging with University College London Hospital (UCH), a leading tertiary cancer services provider. Mount Vernon will continue to provide high-quality care for cancer patients during the transition period, which is expected to complete by April 2024.The cancer centre will move to an established local acute hospital site, with access to intensive care facilities, whilst remaining a separate cancer centre. A networked satellite radiotherapy service will be developed to enhance the provision of cancer care to patients in the north of the area. Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity within the Palliative Medicine department at Mount Vernon. The appointed consultant will take an active part in the provision of an integrated palliative care service working within the established palliative care team. The service provides palliative care support within the hospital in-patient unit and in the out-patient department. The current team consists of an experienced palliative care nurse, a staff grade, and the new appointed consultant. The post will be based at Mount Vernon. This new appointment will ensure daily consultant support for the palliative care service at Mount Vernon.The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in an active audit programme as well as contribute to various training activities on site. The applicant will also run outpatient services with clinics for complex pain control and symptom management.East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is committed to developing careers.
