We are recruiting for an experienced and dynamic Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dedicated team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Ophthalmology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The Sub-Regional Eye Unit consists of outpatient facilities at three sites; Lister Treatment Centre (LTC), New QEII Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, as well as a theatre complex fully equipped with state of the art equipment for ophthalmic surgery and an Urgent Eye Clinic based at the LTC.
The Eye Unit is extremely busy with 8,000 new patients and 21,000 follow-up visits per year. There are well-established specialist clinics in medical retina, paediatrics, glaucoma, oculoplastics and vitreo-retinal surgery as well as a thriving Diabetic Retinal Screening Programme.
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive appointment, based predominantly at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) and weekend on-call commitment, for 10.5 PAs in total, which could be modified for a candidate preferring to work 10 PAs or less than full time.
The successful applicant will manage ophthalmology patients referred from Accident service, General Medical Practitioners and other departments of the hospital.
The post holder will contribute in ward rounds, operating sessions and management of in-patients, writing letters and communicating with General Medical Practitioners and other medical, nursing and paramedical staff as required, etc.

- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
