We are looking for highly motivated pharmacists to join our award winning, innovative, progressive, patient-centred pharmacy team. We are a friendly department and will support you to become an outstanding clinical pharmacist and help you fulfil your full potential.
We offer a structured rotational program which includes specialities such as ED, acute medicine, critical care, endocrinology, respiratory, gastroenterology, vascular surgery, aseptic oncology / haematology, clinical trials and a renowned renal services unit.
You will also have the opportunity to be part of our new elective admissions service.
We will fully fund and support you to undertake relevant post graduate training including the prescribing qualification and leadership training.
We will develop your portfolio of skills to prepare you for more senior roles within the department through involvement in directorate and project work focused on improving quality of clinical services and patient-focused care.
Main duties of the job
To join the multidisciplinary team and provide expert pharmacy services to a variety of inpatient wards. - To participate in the new elective admissions serviceas part of the Planned Care team.You will consult with patients prior to elective surgery, prescribe post-operative and discharge medication thereby increasing discharge time and improving patient experience.
- To utilise specialist pharmaceutical skills to drive innovation and continuous improvement within selected specialties.
- To support Pharmacy Team Leads for Unplanned Care/Planned Care, in directorate reporting, audits, guideline/policy updates and financial and medicines information.
- To be a clinical mentor and guide junior pharmacists, foundation trainee pharmacists throughout their training programmes.
- To participate in the departmental emergency duty rota, currently less than 1 in 20.

- To support either the Pharmacist Advanced or the Pharmacist Team Leader for Medicine/ Surgery, in directorate reporting, undertaking audits as required, updating guidelines and policies and assisting with the provision of financial and other information
- To act as the lead pharmacist for the ward ensuring all aspects of the service are developed and supported or to work as a Directorate support pharmacist for a specific area within the Medical/ Surgical Division
- To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the ward covering all aspects of medicines management or to provide specialist clinical pharmacy input to a specific ward/ area within the Medical/ Surgical Division.
- Contribute to the Education and Training agenda within the pharmacy department. Support the E&T team under guidance from the Pharmacist Team Leader for Medicine/ Surgery with organising clinical teaching sessions for pharmacy staff.
- Provide clinical training and assessment of junior clinical pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists whilst on rotation through surgery or medicine.
- To provide education and training for doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals and patients.
- To undertake risk management and ensure compliance with medicines legislation
- To carry out general dispensing and associated clinical and pharmaceutical duties and to assist with the provision of the pharmaceutical service to the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. To provide leadership in the dispensary for junior pharmacists and dispensary staff
