Job summary
Consultant in Medical Oncology with a special interest in breast and upper GI malignancies, based at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and Lister Hospital. This is a substantive post and comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment.Mount Vernon is a well-respected cancer centre, providing care to over 5,000 new patients a year, based in Northwood, Middlesex. It is currently run by East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust (ENHT) and is in the process of merging with University College London Hospital (UCH), a leading tertiary cancer services provider. Mount Vernon will continue to provide high-quality care for cancer patients during the transition period, which is expected to complete by January 2023.The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualified Consultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active part in the programme.Please note: That as part of the selection process you will be required to undertake a psychometric assessment which is mandatory, there are no right or wrong answers and the aim of this is to give the panel members more information into the strengths and possible de-railers of candidates preferred behaviours. Main duties of the job
This re-organised post is available immediately to provide site specific services to the local population and surrounding areas. Out-patient duties and SACT delivery will be at both the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and Lister Hospital. The post holder will specialise in the management of breast and upper GI malignancies, joining a dynamic team of surgeons and oncologists with a significant national research reputation.The post holder will be joining three large regional MDTs at centres of excellence for oesophago-gastric (Imperial), breast (Lister) and hepatobilary (Royal Free). The post holder would join each very active team, including internationally acclaimed surgeons with extensive clinical trial portfolios, and be encouraged to develop innovative clinical research activity alongside this. Opportunities to develop upper GI, breast and hepatobiliary research will develop further with the merger with UCH and subsequent academic opportunities that arise.
