Job summary

This is a fixed term for 12 months for the reason of a time limited demand requirement due to elective recovery and comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs). The Locum Consultant will work alongside the current consultant team of 12 in Diabetes and Endocrinology.The locum consultant can be either (i) a diabetes and endocrinology consultant and as such will also contribute to specialist work in outpatients OR (ii) a specialist in any discipline where the predominant contribution will be to work on the base ward allowing one of the team consultants to carry out more specialist work

We are seeking a locum consultant with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.

The role is based predominantly at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, which enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Diabetes and Endocrine department, we enjoy a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care, but also for our friendly and supportive approach.

The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualified Consultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active part in the programme.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out ward duties in GIM and be part of the diabetes outreach team (DOT), clinics in diabetes, endocrinology and have a key role in the provision of insulin pump services The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs).

To provide specialist hospital and community diabetes clinics and contribute to general medical ward and diabetes outreach care.The post has been created on the basis of the need to support in-patient services and enhance our recovery from the COVID related backlog.

The post holder will help develop the diabetes and endocrinology services appropriate to the need of the population in partnership with the other consultant Diabetologists and with support from the Clinical Director. The post will have mentorship support from the Diabetes Clinical Director. The Trust is keen to attract a clinician committed to service development and interested in active leadership roles within the department.
