Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for conscientious, enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates to join the Gastroenterology / Hepatology administrative team at Hemel Hempstead Hospital.The post holder will work closely with the Hepatology Specialist Nurses, Gastroenterology consultants, their immediate colleagues, and other administrative and clinical members of the Gastroenterology service.

This post is 27 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be providing a comprehensive and efficient administrative service to one or more of the Gastroenterology/ Hepatology consultants, nurses and secretarial team.

The successful applicant will ensure the day-to-day smooth running of the department through maintaining office systems including the development and maintenance of electronic booking systems. Adding patients to waiting list on PAS for Fibroscan procedure and booking appointment date. Booking, cancelling and rescheduling hepatology and gastroenterology nurses and consultants clinic appointments.

Education and qualifications:

Essential

  • 4 GCSE (C and above) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages eg PowerPoint, Word, Excel and other IT skills acquired through training and practical experience

Knowledge:

Essential

  • Experience working within an admin role
  • Thorough knowledge of Patient access policy
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Understanding of the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act
  • Proven analytical ability, calculating breach dates, using a range of toolkits
  • Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative
  • Proficient in the use of computer software packages, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of Medical terminology

  • Understanding of what Hepatology stands for
