Job summary
We are seeking a new team member to join our Children's Outpatients team, working across Watford and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals.
Our department offers a wide range of specialties, allowing you to develop valuable skills while supporting the smooth running of the clinics.
In the respiratory clinics, you will gain experience in skills such as Spirometry, FeNo testing, and teaching inhaler techniques.
You will also be responsible for measuring and weighing children during their appointments and ensuring that all data is accurately documented.
Some clinics may require additional observations, including Blood Pressure, Sats, Heart Rate, and ECGs.
We work closely with our Consultants, providing assistance during their clinics. At times, you may also be asked to chaperone patients during their consultations.
Confidentiality is essential in our department, and we require all tasks completed with the child to be documented in EPR before they see the Consultant.
There may also be occasions where you will be involved in safeguarding, and professionalism will be paramount in such situations.
The working hours are either 09:00-17:00 or 08:30-16:30, but there may be occasional adjustments to accommodate clinic schedules.
Main duties of the job
- Weighing and measuring children.
- Preparing clinic rooms for both morning and afternoon clinics.
- Replenishing of stock when delivered to trolleys and cupboards.
- Chaperoning patients.
- Carrying out manual and automatic blood pressures.
- Assisting respiratory clinics with teaching inhaler technique, nasal spray technique and receiving training for Spirometry and FeNo.
- Answering the telephone and referring to the appropriate person.
- Keeping the department and equipment clean and tidy in preparation for all clinics.
