Job summary
We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Engineer responsible for undertaking planned and reactive maintenance of complex mechanical control systems across the diverse building services of the Trust estate.
Please note; You must have the following qualifications:
Recognised time servedapprenticeship, or City & Guilds inMechanical Engineering/Plumbing orBTEC (ONC) in Engineering orequivalent.NVQ3 or above

The role is based at Watford General Hospital, however there may be occasions when the role will be required to travel across the other sites.
You will have the ability to analyse complex faults and undertake rectifications to ensure continuity of service.
You will be able to prioritise workloads, identify potential improvement to operational system and management processes in order to increase departmental efficiencies.
Please note- You must be able to travel to site for emergency on-call within an hour.

Main duties of the job
o Undertake complex trade tasks within your specialist area in support of the Team's overall output.
o In support of the other supervisor ensures the day to day efficient and safe working of all engineering plant on site.
o To attend to plant breakdowns to carry out repairs and restore the units to service as quickly and efficiently as possible.
o To be in attendance and carry out preparation work to facilitate inspections carried out by the Trust's pressure vessel insurers.
o To activate changeover of plant and or its safe isolation in the event of a malfunction or breakdown.
o To be able to work on all types of air-conditioning plant.
o Be fully conversant with all types of belt drives, pulleys and direct drive couplings.
o Be fully conversant with all types of pumps.
o To be able to work on oil free medical and control air reciprocating compressors and vacuum plant.
o To be able to carry out minor installation work of all types of pipe work.
o Experienced in hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.o Is conversant with H.T.H.W. M.T.H.W. L.P.H.W. and Steam Heating Systems. June 2016.o To be able to carry out minor electrical work such as isolation/connection/disconnection of electrical supplies to all forms of mechanical plant.

Carry out both installation repairs and planned preventative maintenance on heating systems, compressors, motors, pumps, heat recovery, ventilation systems and controls. Carry out statutory inspections and testing on mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment, and complete necessary documentation. Safe isolation of mechanical and electrical services, medical gases and natural gas in emergency situations. Assist in the investigation of accidents and dangerous occurrence within the department. Carry out all work in accordance with the departments generic Risk Assessments and non-generic Risk Assessments as and when required. Use all relevant tools, machinery and equipment to comply with current Health & Safety Legislation. Fully understand all relevant general Health & Safety issues appertaining to the relevant trade discipline. Provide emergency recall and undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to. Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.To liaise and work with other trades/disciplines including external agencies (contractors).
