This post was created and aimed at newly qualified junior doctors who wish to further their medical training in the UK NHS. This post is not recognised by Health Education England but will provide a parallel training experience equivalent to training in HEE recognised posts within the Trust. The Trust will support post holders in fulfilling equivalent competencies to support future specialist training.
The postholder will participate in the Foundation Year 1 rota. For training, the postholder will be expected to complete all Foundation Year 1 competencies and to keep an electronic record of these in line with existent training Foundation Year 1 standards. The postholder will be assigned a Clinical and Educational Supervisor and will be expected to complete appropriate appraisals at the end of each post.
Main duties of the job
To attend a generic, a departmental and a personal induction programme with your consultant educational supervisor. To work to a timetable provided at the beginning of the 4 month period.
To be responsible for producing and TTO's to allow their receipt by GPs within 24 hours of the discharge of an inpatient. Although fairly heavily committed to the routine care of patients, the FHO1 is free, after discussion with his/her consultant, to undertake any audit project as may be appropriate.
To attend the FH01 teaching programme on Tuesday, 12-2pm. To attend monthly CPR training sessions. To attend (approximately alternate - monthly) clinical governance half-days.

- Formulating a plan when a patient is admitted, revising this as they progress and planning their discharge.

- Communication skills in relation to giving bad news to/discussing problems with patients and their families and in how to involve then in planning future management

- Exposure to elective and emergency surgical operations and opportunity to perform minor procedures under supervision.
The postholder will be indemnified by the trust for all NHS work undertaken as part of the contract of employment. It is advised however that in addition the post holder should take out adequate professional defence cover for such activities as do not fall within the scope of the Trust indemnity scheme, such as work undertaken outside the NHS, such as Good Samaritan acts.
