An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ophthalmology Department at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for an experienced, motivated and committed Service Co-ordinator to join the Ophthalmology Team at Watford General Hospital.
The applicant will be providing efficient administration support to a highly specialised and innovative department, ensuring that every patient receives the most appropriate appointment, whilst adhering to NHS booking targets.
This post is 15 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
To provide general administrative support to the Ophthalmology Coordinator and administrative team.
Applicants will need to have excellent communicational, organisational and I.T skills.
Applicants should be adaptable and have the ability to remain calm under pressure. They will need to be able to work in a calm, logical and methodical way and be able to multitask whist dealing with frequent interruptions

The role is to primarily to provide general administrative support to the Ophthalmology Coordinator and administrative team. This includes:
Receive and register referrals into the department ensuring timely triage by clinicians.
Accurately record referrals onto EPR and track outcomes including 1st appointments into the service as required.
To schedule appointments for patients and rearrange appointments when required using the electronic patient records (EPR) system. Where necessary organise interpreting services. Work closely with the clinical and non-clinical team to ensure all urgent and routine patients are booked within the appropriate timeframe.
To liaise with the Outpatients team/Admissions Waiting List Coordinator with regards to making new outpatient/TCI appointments.
To request stationery from the team leader when required and maintain a good level of stock in the department.
General office procedures commensurate with a secretarial post, including photocopying, filing, managing post and managing e-mails, and deputising for the secretaries as and when required.
