Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Chemistry Biomedical Scientist to join the Blood Sciences team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust.

The laboratory is fully accredited with UKAS and holds IBMS training status for Registration and Specialist Portfolio.

In Blood Sciences, we currently use WinPath5, Roche cobas 8000 modular analysers for clinical chemistry, Atellica Solution for Immunoassays, Menarini Hb9210, Sebia for electrophoresis and, other small bench analysers for xanthochromia, osmolality or direct ISE.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be highly motivated, enthusiastic and should have flexible but committed approach to working. They will need to demonstrate good organisational skills and the ability to work without close supervision in a team.

The successful applicant must be HCPC registered and will be expected to participate in the shift system

To be an efficient flexible member of the Chemistry team, providing a high-quality service to West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust.

To maintain the required levels of laboratory safety and good laboratory practice, as specified in local and national guidelines.

To work with biomedical scientists and clinical scientists in the provision of a comprehensive and effective chemistry service as directed by the Head of the Department.

To participate in the efficient handling, processing, and analysis of samples in the laboratory.

To maintain effective records of all activities and procedures, and to contribute towards the maintenance of the laboratory's quality system.

To check, keep clean and maintain laboratory equipment.

To carry out supervised laboratory procedures in all sections of the laboratory, as directed by the department manager and senior BMS staff.

To undergo appropriate teaching and training as directed and as necessary to maintain HCPC registration and suitable records of all training activities undertaken.
