Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint two enthusiastic Consultants in intensive care.

This post is for a full time Consultant in Intensive Care and is a replacement post following a retirement.

Duties will be at Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. The post holder will work 1 in 6 weeks covering ICU during the day with the other 5 weeks as anaesthetic or further ICU sessions.

The current ICU Consultant timetable is shown below with the theatre duties subject to agreement with the successful candidate.

Candidates are required to have MBBS or equivalent FRCA or equivalent in ICM described by the faculty of ICM and must be on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of CCT (and gaining specialist registration) at time of interview.

  • Successful candidates will be also eligible for a relocation allowance of up to £12,000 (if required) /pro rata.

The Trust have agreed a proposal for up to 1PA of SPA time/week to be worked flexibly.

This change is in line with the Trusts' flexible working agenda and recognition of the enormous contribution that this group of staff continue to provide to our staff and patients.

Main duties of the job

The duties of the role will involve:

Undertake the responsibilities associated with the role of a Consultant in a intensive care, withclinical sessions based at Watford General Hospital.

Cover for periods of colleague absence due to annual leave and other authorised undertakings.

Provide professional supervision and management of trainee and specialty medical staff.

Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at Audit, Governance and Consultant meetings.

Take part in annual appraisal, and revalidation.

Active involvement in audit and service improvement projects.Involvement in research is encouraged.

Teaching both trainees and undergraduates.

Maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development.
