Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Midwife with an interest and passion for bereavement care, to join the Lead Bereavement Midwife in to provide sensitive, compassionate specialist care and support to families who have experienced the loss of their baby through stillbirth, miscarriage or neonatal death.
They will meet the needs of each family as unique individuals respecting their diverse needs and ensuring equity. The post holder will work with the specialist bereavement service and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care to families in both the Maternity and Neonatal units.
This is a part time role of 22.5 hours, flexible working options are available
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work with the Lead bereavement midwife in setting and monitoring clinical standards and will play a proactive role in quality improvement. The post holder will assist in the statutory reporting of pregnancy and baby loss through CDOP and MBRRACE working to the standards set and within the prescribed time frames for completion. The post holder will enable and empower families to ask questions about their care when a review of their care is taking place (namely PMRT). They will be required to support the PMRT process. The post holder will advise on the legal frameworks and requirements after a death has occurred, this includes the Coroner's referral process, registration, medical examiners, funeral process for registered births and non-registered births. The post holder will participate in audits and associated projects and be part of the team implementing the National Bereavement Care Pathway

- Act as an advocate for the bereaved families by using influencing skills at all levels of organisation to ensure that an individuals care is to the highest possible standard.
- Hold sensitive conversations in regard to giving information to women following hearing bad news regarding their pregnancy
- Provide both practical and emotional support to women and their families, giving them the opportunity to acknowledge and express their concerns in a safe environment, maintaining confidentiality
- Provide ongoing support and information to colleagues about bereavement services
- The post holder will provide families and staff with advice and support related to tissue consent including taking consent for post-mortem, and tissue disposal.
- The post holder will provide bereavement support to service users and colleagues in identified consultant-led pregnancy loss clinics.
- Provide immediate clinical care to bereaved parents when possible
- Supporting colleagues on duty, providing bereavement care
- Be competent in clinical skills to enable the delivery of high-quality midwifery care/ bereavement care within the service.
- Undertake, perform and assess enhanced skills within the clinical area, to improve the patient experience.
