Job summary
Team West Herts are looking for a person experienced in manual handling and ergonomics such as a chartered physiotherapist or other with relevant or equivalent knowledge and skills to lead and manage our moving & handling team for a 12 month secondment.
This is an exciting position to be the lead advisor on manual handling for the Trust and be responsible for the delivery of moving & handling services across all WHTHT sites.
The successful candidate will need experience in the acute healthcare sector.
This a full-time post Monday-Friday, predominately based at our Watford Hospital with some travel required to our Hemel and St Albans sites.
Main duties of the job
Manage the team in all aspects of Moving & Handling including workstreams, MH training and education, staff DSE, MSK and ergonomic risk assessments, equipment management and advice, complex patient assessments and risk management
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate proven skills in education and training and/or the management of musculoskeletal disorders working in line with evidence-based practice, communication, team working and compassion.

To oversee the day to day activity of the service
- Line management appraisals, absence management, 1-1s
- Organise and manage core workstreams by allocation, delegation and team work as appropriate.
- Ensure and manage the provision and delivery of moving & handling training to all staff groups in line with relevant legislation and professional guidance MHOR, CSTF, NBE
- Manage the provision of timely ergonomic, DSE and moving & handling risk assessments to staff
- Undertake, collaborate with and expertly advise occupational health and HR in supporting staff return to work in the management of musculoskeletal disorders through timely ergonomic and DSE risk assessments.
- Expertly lead in advising on the management of patients with complex moving & handling needs
- Operationally manage the maintenance and procurement of moving and handling equipment and accessories.
- Expertly lead on risk management in relation to Trust manual handling DATIX incidents, MHRA, FSN & CAS alerts
- Undertake own caseload of complex moving & handling referrals and risk assessments as appropriate for the purpose of sickness absence management through assessment to advice with training and supervision, where required.
- Collate data in relation to service activities and report to Occupational Health Manager and H&S as appropriate
- To build and maintain good professional relationships with the OH team and wider multidisciplinary team
- To maintain appropriate records in line with departmental protocols on record keeping and confidentiality.
- To use a range of IT programmes as part of day-to-day duties.
