Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to join our Dermatology Team. This is initially a fixed 6PA post for 12 months.

The successful candidate will join an established team of 17 Consultants. There is support from 1 Associate Specialist, 4 Specialty doctors and specialist dermatology nurses including 2 skin cancer specialist nurses and 2 paediatric specialist dermatology nurses.

The department also has 1 SPR, 2 clinical fellows and 1 VTS trainee. Services available include day case surgery, paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, patch testing and iontophoresis.

Specialist Joint Leg Ulcer, Vulval and Male Genital Dermatoses clinics are held and we have an outreach Plastic Surgery service from the Royal Free Hospital.

The post-holder will work with colleagues to support and develop Dermatology services for the local population.

You will be based across at no more than 2 hospital sites within the trust which include Watford General, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a fixed term consultant in Dermatology initially for 6 months. Encouragement will be given to the development of special clinical interests within dermatology.

Dermatology duties (general)

These posts will attract 6 programmed activities but any part-time posts with be considered.

  • Outpatient Clinic - general dermatology and 2WWs Morning and afternoon clinics usually run for four hours. The usual clinic profile is 5-6 news and 8 follow ups

  • Minor surgery sessions-Usually 6 cases in 3-4-hour session depending on complexity
  • MDT -fortnightly attendance at skin cancer
  • Teledermatology sessions

Each weekday, a consultant dermatologist triages referrals on e-RS through our referral and assessment service. Referrals, most with attached photographs may be returned with advice, booked directly to surgery or clinic. These sessions will be shared with the other consultants. Usually, 20-30 cases will be triaged in a 4-hour session

It is expected that this post will at SACH, but other combinations of sites will be considered depending on agreement with applicant

On call duties Dermatology

The post-holder will not be expected to take part in any on call service on weekends/evenings but will share rota for ward/A and E referrals 9 until 5pm during weekdays
