An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Chief of Staff/Business Manager to provide support to the Chief Executive and Chair in achieving their objectives.
This is a great opportunity for a high performing manager to develop their leadership skills and further their experience of working in a high pressurised, fast-paced environment.
We would welcome applications from candidates with strong operational management skills, with substantial experience of writing reports and briefings and in handling complex arrangements to a high degree of accuracy. The candidate must have the ability to work without direct supervision.
This is a full-time post and the successful applicant will be expected to work in person at Watford General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The Chief of Staff will operate as a business partner with the aim of making the CEO and Chair as effective and efficient as possible. They will act as a trusted advisor and deal with highly strategic, confidential information.
The post holder will represent the Office of the CEO and Chair and, at times, attend a range of forums either with them, or on their behalf.
The Chief of Staff will contribute to the formulation of organisational strategy, as well as steering, coordinating and executing the delivery of a range of trust activities.
The post holder will manage the CEO and Chair's extremely busy, complex diaries and ensure that they are fully briefed and have the relevant information ahead of meetings.
The Chief of Staff will line manage the Executive Support Team and ensure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes at Trust Head Office.

The success applicant will:
- Act as the principal officer of support for the Office of the Chief Executive & Chair, anticipating problems and being sensitive to issues that require extreme diplomacy.
- Oversee the executive office of the CEO; supporting in the day-to-day management of the Trust. This includes tracking the CEOs commitments and ensuring that they are delivered efficiently and effectively.
- Act as the trusted advisor and counsel to the CEO.
- Represent the Office of the CEO and Chair, and at times attending a range of forums with the CEO.
- Act as a communicator by linking the leadership team and the broader organisation, creating and maintaining cross-departmental relationships.
- Have direct line management of the Executive Support Team to ensure that the Business Coordinators offer an outstanding, effective service.
- Support the Chief Executive and Director of Communications in the management of relationships with external stakeholders and external bodies, including Members of Parliament, partner organisations and NHS England. This includes having oversight of responses and communication with their offices and coordinating visits as required.
- Work with the Trust Secretary and Business Coordinators to ensure that the CEO has all the relevant information needed ahead of meetings, to enable productive decision making.
- Have oversight of the CEO and Chairs complex diaries, planning ahead to ensure they are fully briefed for meetings and attending any key meetings with the CEO and Chair if required.
- Proactively manage the CEOs in-box, monitoring and highlighting important emails, tracking, forwarding and drafting responses as appropriate.
