Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in paediatric ophthalmology to join our dedicated and professional multi-disciplinary ophthalmic team. This is for a full-time, substantive position (Monday - Friday with no out-of-hours on-call duties).

The Ophthalmology service offers urgent and general ophthalmic care including cataract, medical retina, oculoplastics, glaucoma and paediatric ophthalmology / strabismus.

The Trust have agreed a proposal for up to 1PA of SPA time/week to be worked flexibly.

This change in in line with the Trusts' flexible working agenda and recognition of the enormous contribution that this group of staff continue to provide to our staff and patients.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10 PA appointment across the two hospital sites (Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital). The candidate should be experienced in paediatric ophthalmology.

The candidate will be expected to carry out: paediatric ophthalmology out-patient clinics, strabismus and minor ops surgery, ROP screening, primary care clinic (general) and provide support/advice to junior staff undertaking urgent eye clinic when required Please note, our urgent eye clinics run between Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm.

There are no out-of-hours commitments / on-call service. An adult cataract surgery theatre list can be added into the timetable if desired.
