Job summary
Applications are invited for the position of a Consultant Breast Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast and reconstructive surgery to join a team of 3 consultant Breast surgeons working at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust and will complement the current well-established experienced team of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeons.
The successful candidate will also be part of a team of Specialty Doctors and specialist nurses for the provision of one stop outpatient clinics and surgery. This a substantive post, full-time post working across two hospital sites.
The Breast Unit is based at St Albans City Hospital which is specially designed such that the clinics, X-ray department, breast care nurses, and receptionists are located adjacent to each other. Some 70% of breast operations can be done at St Albans City Hospital, which is an elective admission site with protection of beds from emergencies and offers a calmer atmosphere than the acute site at Watford.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will manage all aspects of breast disease in the outpatient setting including running breast clinics for new patients in a one-stop setting as well as results, post-operative and follow-up clinics. Attendance is required at the weekly multidisciplinary meeting. The post will require proficiency in oncoplastic breast surgery up to level 3 and implant-base reconstruction.
As part of a drive to increase the efficiency and resilience of our one-stop service to increased demand, experience in performing and reporting breast ultrasound scan will be desirable.
The jobplan comprises Theatre 2.5, Clinic 3.5, MDM 0.5, Admin 2, SPA 1.5 = 10PA. An additional session may be offered on Friday pm (currently US clinic or SPA alternating with theatre list). Should a fifth breast consultant be appointed in the future, 0.5 PA regular theatre session would be replaced by prospective cover of colleagues' theatre lists. The jobplan is subject to change according to the Department's and Trust's requirements, if necessary, in the future. The working conditions in this post are equitable to the current consultants.
