Band 8a - Commercial Contract Manager, Pathology Business Unit

Job summary

The post holder is expected to deliver high quality commercial service to the STP Pathology Directorate and managing external outsourced contracts. The post holder is responsible for managing and advising on STP Pathology contracts to ensure the contracting party delivers the key contractual obligations. This will involve working closely with Divisions to understand the processes and context of the service.

The post holder is expected to participate on the commercial contract discussions on behalf of the STP Pathology. This will include negotiations with outsource contractor, external bodies, both NHS and non-NHS on the strategic financial and contractual implications. This will also include leading on commissioning negotiations for new services, including long term risk assessment and forward planning to influence and mitigate these risks.

Main duties of the job

  • Review/draft contracts
  • Forecast impact on Contracting Authority (CA) and its service over the life of contract/year ahead
  • Performance management/administration of contracts
  • Provide expert/complete overview of performance including quality, cost, volume and focus on wider quality & assurance issues, including patient experience & safety
  • Relationship management with contractor & help coordinate organisation wide response to issues
  • Translate contractor data sources into one report, highlight key risks; provide CA with performance, activity & forecasting information articulating current position & recommendations around early management of over performance/opportunities for improvement
  • Contractor performance managed in line with legal framework agreed by Trust & Contractor
  • Monitor/report on KPIs for outsourced services & commercial contracts

Exercise dispute resolution mechanisms for contractual issues arising from performance of contractual arrangements across Trust
