Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic individual for a Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology - Fix term post for 12 months.

It is a full time post with no on call commitment. There are regular opportunities to perform out of hours on call work for extra renumeration if desired. The post will primarily involve assessment and management of patients with upper gastrointestinal complaints.

The post will be expected to be able to travel to all 3 Trust hospital Sites (Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St Albans Hospital).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be timetabled 3 outpatient clinics per week and cystosponge sessions. These clinics will include patients referred on the suspected upper GI cancer 2 week wait pathway and also a mixture of general gastroenterology patients.

The service aims of this post are:

  • To develop a local service for earlier detection of oesophageal carcinoma by helping to set up a cytosponge service
  • To improve the access and assessment of patients referred on the suspected upper GI cancer 2 week wait pathway

The post holder will have the opportunity to attend 1 OGD training list per week

The post holder will be involved in reviewing general gastroenterology specialist referrals along with the other registrar and consultants. They also may occasionally be asked to cover the gastroenterology inpatient ward in times of colleague absence.

The post-holder will be need to part in clinical governance and clinical risk management, and in their implementation, including audit.
