Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic applicant(s) for a FTC Specialist Doctor post (up to 10PAs) in Integrated Sexual Health commencing as soon as possible to work alongside a dynamic team of sexual health professionals at Maidstone Hospital.
We are looking for support in augmenting our services; help developing the clinical leadership of the service and support developments for our diverse local population. We are looking for an applicant who wants to develop innovative ways to provide sexual health care and collaborate with our experienced and flexible team.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a caseload of GUM and HIV patients and supporting nurse led clinics. The successful applicant will also be expected to provide safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults attending the service. A Safeguarding lead nurse and the Trust Safeguarding team will support the service.

The successful applicant will be expected to work 8 PAs (of a 10 PA job plan) of Direct Clinical Care with each PA being a 4-hour session. Face to face and telephone consultations are 30 -45 minutes depending on the type of clinic. DCC admin time is included within each session to allow for patient related admin and to provide clinical support of the nursing staff who run clinics alongside the Doctors. It is expected that Specialty Doctors will support the training of sexual health staff, medical students and other professionals interested in sexual health.
The successful applicant will be expected to attend and contribute to relevant clinical and management meetings including a monthly team meeting, Clinical Ops meeting and any additional clinical meetings that require their presence. Time is allocated within the job plan for these and can be adjusted as responsibility changes.

- MB BS (or equivalent)
- Registered with GMC with a license to practice
- Diploma in GUM and /or Diploma in HIV or working towards this within first 12 months of the post
- Membership of a relevant national body/bodies (BASHH, BHIVA or FRSH)
Desirable
- Letters of competency in subdermal implants and IUD fitting
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
- Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD
Knowledge and skills
Essential
- Understand the principles of audit
- Ability to lead a clinical project
- Enthusiasm for teaching staff, students and other health professionals
- An understanding of general principles, scientific method and interpretation of research literature
Desirable
- Evidence of participation in national audit, action plan development and implementation of change
- Evidence of completion of regional or local audit projects
Experience
Essential
- Experience in day to day organisation of services in a busy outpatient sexual health department
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
- Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal
- Experience in the development of clinical guidelines including clinical care pathways or submissions to drug and therapeutics committees
- Enthusiasm to take on management and leadership roles to help support the development of the sexual health service
