Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for the efficient, day to day running of the Histology administrative teams together with the second clerical lead to ensure a full clerical service is provided to the Histopathology Consultants as well as supporting the departmental laboratory leads as required.

This will include the direct line management of Histology administrative staff and excellent organisational and administrative skills. This also includes ensuring the day to day running of the Allocation Office is maintained and work is distributed accordingly. This involves overseeing the distribution of work ensuring that specimen allocation time/points are appropriately divided between the specialty Consultant Histopathologists.

Main duties of the job

  1. Supervises and leads departmental clerical staff/team
  2. Maintaining an awareness of confidentiality with the team
  3. Manages clerical staff leave in a way that ensures adequate staffing cover to meet departmental objectives and priorities. This must take in to consideration the possible impact of sickness and other absences.
  4. Ensures that own work and that of the office is produced to a high standard, in a timely and efficient manner
  5. Communicates effectively at all times with staff, other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives, external agencies, commercial suppliers, service engineers and visitors to the laboratory.
  6. Attends departmental and Trust-wide staff meetings and training as appropriate.
  7. Supports the departmental management in reviewing and revising office practice and advising upon deficiencies therein
