We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking Consultant Colorectal Surgeon to join the General Surgery team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job
This is a new post, created with the aim of increasing the capacity to deliver colorectal surgery within the trust. The successful applicant will be expected to support the provision of colorectal cancer surgery and take an active part in the colorectal multidisciplinary meeting. They will also be expected to take part in the emergency on call rota for general surgery admissions as well as providing elective sessions in outpatients, theatres and endoscopy.
There will be the opportunity to develop sub-specialty colorectal interests such as pelvic floor services, inflammatory bowel disease surgery or pursue an academic pathway linking with the University of Kent. With the arrival of a new medical school in Kent the applicant should be committed to teaching and will have the opportunity to engage with future under graduate and post graduate training.
About us
The Trust was formed in April 2000 by the merger of the Mid Kent Healthcare Trust and the Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust. It provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 500,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some tertiary referral, specialist services to a considerably larger population (1.2 million). Its major hospitals are the new Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital. The Trust's Headquarters are at Maidstone Hospital
The department of surgery is based on the two hospital sites. Tunbridge Wells Hospital is the main in-patient site offering emergency surgery, major elective surgery, out patients and endoscopy whilst out patients, day case surgery and endoscopy occur on the Maidstone site. Tunbridge Wells Hospital is also a level 2 trauma centre and is the location of paediatric services and the obstetric and gynaecology departments for the trust. Maidstone hospital is the main site for urological surgery, regional gynaecological oncology and breast surgery.

To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trusts patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trusts strategic direction.
To participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the specialty covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical governance half-days as detailed in the Trusts Guide to Job planning unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.
