An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trust Grade doctor to join our Haematology team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The department seeks to provide a dynamic, friendly and clinically-led service across both of our hospitals, Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital. We provide day care facilities, out-patient clinics and laboratory support on both sites. Our level 2B inpatient unit, Lord North, is based at Maidstone Hospital with an adjacent ambulatory unit. Our team is supported by five Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Trials Specialist Nurse, two Specialist Registrars, three CMTs, one FY2, one speciality doctor, one Physician Associate and two Transfusion Practitioners.
The Trust is based in a beautiful part of the country with excellent schools, recreational and leisure facilities and good transport links to London and Europe.
Main duties of the job
The main role of the post holder will be to assist in the care of haematology patients in the out-patient setting, both in clinics and in the day unit. This will include bone marrow lists and intrathecal lists. Support will also be required to assist the attending Consultant with haematology inpatients.
There will be an on call commitment which will be subject to discussion with the successful applicant.
Other Duties
Training will be provided for participation in providing laboratory haematology service.
The post-holder will participate in the multidisciplinary meeting. The post-holder will be expected to work with local managers and colleagues to enhance the service
About us
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was formed in April 2000 following a merger of the Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust and Mid-Kent NHS Trust. It provides a haematology service for a population of approximately 560,000 people living in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, East Sussex, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas. The Trust incorporates 2 acute district general hospitals each with a similar catchment population.
The Tunbridge Wells hospital at Pembury is a new PFI funded DGH with 595 beds which opened in September 2011. The hospital is unique in the country in that all beds are within side rooms with en-suite facilities. Maidstone Hospital is the sister DGH and incorporates the Kent Oncology Centre providing specialist cancer services to 1.2 million people. Each hospital has a full range of Acute Services, ICU, outpatient/ambulatory services and Haemato-oncology daycase work.
