Job summary

This is an exciting new Band 4 post for those wanting to experience working within the corporate nursing team.

You will work within the Nursing and Midwifery Education Team, with the focus being Healthcare Support Worker training and development.

You will be required to work across site (Maidstone Hospital & Tunbridge Wells Hospital)

You will need to be enthusiastic and motivated, so that Healthcare Support Workers are provided with the best support, when either brand new to the Trust, or whilst undertaking a training programme, such as the Care Certificate or Apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) Training Team in the development opportunities for Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Improve patient care and promote best practice by supporting ward/department managers and their teams with the supervision and assessment of newly appointed Trainee Healthcare Support Worker and 'job ready' Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Support newly appointed Healthcare Support Workers during their 2 week HCSW induction in order to ease any new starter anxieties.
  • Support newly appointed HCSWs and 'job ready' HCSWs in their clinical areas following the HCSW induction, so the HCSW feels a valued member of the Trust.
  • Support and assess HCSWs undertaking the Care Certificate.
  • Support and assess HCSWs completing band 2 competencies.
  • Work with existing HCSWs identified as requiring development.
  • Be accountable for own actions and demonstrate initiative.
  • To be able to work with minimal direct supervision, but must work within their level of competence.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts Clinical Induction Programme for Clinical Support Workers (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead ifthis is going to be problematic: rallen@nhs.net),lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling tobothTrust sites.Theprogramme includes 2 supernumerary shiftsin the clinical area (an early and a late shift),all of the other days are classroom-based andrun from 9am to 5pm

  • Level 4/5 healthcare qualification, for example health/science related degree or Foundation Degree in healthcare or equivalent experience (including overseas nursing qualifications).
  • The Care Certificate
  • Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent

Desirable

  • Level 5 qualification in health

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working in a full-time role as a Healthcare Support Worker in a hospital acute care setting or equivalent setting.
  • Insight into role and responsibilities of post.
  • Able to describe the importance of having a trained workforce so that high quality care is delivered to patients.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers (2013).
