Job summary

To assist in the provision of an efficient, responsive, flexible and effective Estates Maintenance service to the Maidstone Hospital site as part of the Estates Department team.

Work with minimal supervision, providing maintenance, repairs and replacement services as necessary to the mechanical service systems, plant and equipment.

Undertake both reactive repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmed to help prolong the life expectancy of equipment/plant.

Recording work carried out via a software package.

This position is advertised as Band 4 but candidates with a suitable BOAS (Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme) qualification will be banded higher.

Main duties of the job

Understand the workings of the Mechanical systems in NHS buildings

An understanding of steam and condensate pipework and associates valves, steam traps, fittings, etc.

Steam and low pressure hot water calorifiers.

Heating pipework CT and VT systems, pumps, bearings, mechanical seals, etc.

Industrial, commercial and domestic hot/cold water systems.

Air handling units (AHUs), water chillers and air conditioning plant.

Control of environmental conditions using a Building Management Systems (BMS).

Gas and oil fired steam raising equipment and boiler plant.

Assist various other trades and to work on wide range of hospital equipment.

Work with minimal supervision and to undertake both reactive and planned maintenance.
