Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Outpatients team

We are looking for a Band 4 Operations Assistant that has excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Outpatients is a fast-paced department providing excellent care to patients who attend for a variety of appointments within all specialities.

You will be working in a fast-paced department that provides a positive working environment, ensuring that high standards of patient care are maintained and that the patient remains at the focus of all that we do.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a committed individual with good organisational skills who would enjoy working within the Outpatients team. The post holder will support with diary management and minute meetings when needed. You will be a key member of the team supporting clinic room utilisation and would need to be able to be able to work under your own initiative.

You would be responsible for providing secretarial support to the department. Good communication, problem solving and IT skills are essential. An ability to work within a busy environment would be a requirement to fulfil this role.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ more than 7,000 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

  • GCSE Mathematics and English (or equivalent)

  • Extensive administrative/secretarial experience which demonstrates the understanding of the key functions to providing an admin support service
  • Experience of dealing with users and a proven experience of working within a customer support role
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent IT skills, experience using the full range of Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable

  • Ability to deal with anxious patients and/ or their carers
  • Knowledge of national NHS targets
