Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic clinical support worker to join our Oncology Day Unit

The post holder will join the existing team to provide support and care for patients attending the treatment suite. They will work with colleagues supporting patients during their appointments, providing individualised and compassionate patient care.

You should possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be prepared to develop clinical skills, and be competent in venepuncture and performing ECG's. You should be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority. You will need to be flexible and resilient in order to cope with the demands of this busy day unit.

Main duties of the job

This post will require you to work 37.5 hours per week. Although this job is based at the the Maidstone site it may be necessary on rare occasions to travel to the Pembury site for training/meetings.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ more than 7,000 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Essential

  • oFunctional skills English and maths level 1 or GCSE English and maths grade G/1 or above.
  • oNVQ/Diploma level 3 in Healthcare (competencies assessed in a healthcare environment) or equivalent healthcare qualification, e.g. successful completion of a level 2 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship.
  • Internal applicants only: In the absence of the above qualifications, the job holder will be required to successfully complete a level 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship within the first 13 months of employment.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous experience in a care setting or day unit environment.
  • Good understanding in oncology & haematology

Desirable

  • Demonstrate experience in specialty
  • Previous experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably within a day unit environment
