Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity within the Haematology department for Healthcare Science Associates to join our friendly team for a 1 year fixed term positions (secondment opportunities will be considered).
As a Blood Sciences Service we pride ourselves in providing a quality-driven patient-focused healthcare, and do this by investing in our staff and technology. The department is ISO 15189, MHRA, CQC and IBMS accredited. The departments offer a broad range of experiences via internal rotation to develop your skills and knowledge. With support available for further education, depending on service needs for staff development.
Haematology departments are based on both sites providing a 24/7* continuous service and offers a broad range of experiences via internal rotation. The laboratories are well equipped with Roche (Chemistry and Immunoassay), Sysmex (haematology), Werfen (coagulation) Sebia (gel and capillary electrophoresis), Dynex Technologies DS2 (ELISA), Menarini (HPLC) and OC sensor (qFIT) analysers, Beckman Coulter (flow cytometry) analysers.
Main duties of the job
As part of your duties, you will be trained to perform administrative tasks in the laboratory, operating laboratory equipment and performing certain manual tests under supervision of HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to ensure smooth workflow of samples in the laboratory. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a background in science who is keen to learn and develop in a stimulating and rewarding environment. The post requires a high level of attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
*On attaining appropriate competencies, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the out of hours rota which will include some weekend, evening and overnight duties. The successful applicants would be based Tunbridge wells, although cross site working may be required as the service demands.
Are you a suitably experienced, highly motivated individual with academic knowledge at the level of a Foundation degree or equivalent, who understands the requirements of a quality-driven service; is able to work under pressure, work flexibly using your own initiative and possess excellent communication skills. You are prepared to take on more responsibility, extend your skills and be instrumental in assisting to move the department into the future.
