Job summary
The Head of Engineering, is a key member of the Directorate Operational Management Team within Estates and is provided with delegated responsibilities in accordance with the needs of the Directorate. This role will be directly responsible for the effective operational, business and performance management of the Engineering services at Maidstone Hospital and associated local sites.
The Head of Engineering, will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high-quality service for Estates Management and acts as the professional lead internally and externally at Maidstone Hospital. The role requires highly effective staff management, financial management and the delivery of sustainable efficiency gains. The role also requires a detailed understanding of how to manage risk and quality within an NHS Service.
The role will take specific delegated responsibility for the monitoring and delivery of key quality and performance standards across the Estates service as well as being fully responsible for producing and implementing agreed business cases for the directorate and Trust board.
Main duties of the job
This role will ensure the safe, effective and efficient provision of Estates management to support the delivery of clinical and non-clinical services at Maidstone Hospital.
Responsible for ensuring that the Trust is compliant with all relevant statutory and mandatory standards, together with relevant NHS and Trust policies, procedures and guidance, being the responsible person for specific engineering related documentation.
The role will hold responsibility for ensuring that staff, patients, visitors and contractors are not exposed to avoidable risks which may harm them individually or as a group whilst on Trust premises or externally whilst undertaking work on behalf of the Trust.
This role is the professional expert lead for the estates engineering service and is wholly responsible for monitoring the performance of both direct staff and contractors, ensuring that a statutory compliant, cost-effective service is delivered, over 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. To be on call as agreed by the Associate Director of Estates.
Will monitor and manage data and systems to ensure that estates engineering services are delivered on time and within budget.
Responsible for ensuring that all staff are appropriately managed, skilled and trained to enable the safe, effective and efficient delivery of estates engineering services.
