Job summary
Cancer Services are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Cancer Performance Team as the Lung Cancer Pathway Navigator. This role is crucial in the tracking and management of patients who are on suspected cancer pathways and diagnostic pathways. You will be responsible for updating patient's records on the cancer database and liaising with different clinical and non -clinical professional staff for the preparation and coordination of key events along the patients cancer pathways. Cancer Services are looking for an individual who can work collaboratively with other services with particular attention to detail and accurate data input.
You will be the point of contact for the next steps in patient pathways following a suspected cancer referral.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that progress in the pathway is recorded in the cancer database system and that updates are added to the system in a timely manner. They will also be responsible for coordinating and organising the workload with a Multi-Disciplinary Team coordinator (MDTC).
You will co-ordinate with the clinical team to arrange the next steps and will communicate these to the patient. You will communicate questions and queries from the patient to the clinical team and provide the appropriate response to the patient.
The role is demanding so you must be confident, assertive and have the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure. You will need good listening and communication skills and be able to deal with people both internally and externally in a sensitive and professional manner. The ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Trust policies is paramount. You will have experience in patient pathway management and will be confident using patient administration systems (including KOMS), and database packages (RIS, Telepath, InfoFlex, etc). Excellent team working, organisational and communication skills are all essential for this post, along with clear experience of resolving problems.
