Job summary
MTW NHS trust is looking to appoint 1 locum consultant in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery to join the existing paediatric team within the orthopaedic department.
This post is a locum position (10 PAs per week) with an on call commitment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will complement the existing team of Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants at MTW. The paediatric orthopaedic service at MTW has expanded continually since 2002 with patients taken from neighbouring trusts as well as locally. This tertiary referral service continues to expand with some 40% of referrals from out of area.
There are satellite services to surrounding areas as part of a paediatricorthopaedic network. There are currently Ponseti and one stop DDH clinics at both sites in addition to multidisciplinary clinics for neuromuscular disorders and an upper limb CP service. Excellent outpatient facilities are available in purpose built paediatric areas at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Paediatric orthopaedic day case surgery takes place at both Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone and in-patient surgery at Tunbridge Wells.

The Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 480,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population. Around 120,000 new patients present each year to the A&E departments. Its major hospitals are the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital.

To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.
To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trusts patients, and to contribute to future thinking about the Trusts strategic direction.
To participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the specialty covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical governance half-days as detailed in the Trusts Guide to JobPlanning unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.
To participate actively in departmental audits, sharing co-ordination of audit activities within the department and implementation of change.
