Job summary
The clinical support worker in the discharge lounges help provide holisitc care to patients who are waiting for the completion of the discharge process, whether it be waiting for medications and or transport. The clinical support worker with work alongside the registered nurses to provide high standard of nursing care for all patients, relative and carers who come through the lounges.
The discharge lounges work closely with the clinical site practitioners, site directors and our care coordination centre to support timely movement of patients from wards to the lounge to allow the acute flow through our emergency departments. This supports getting our sickess patients to the correct clinical area first time.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the clinical support worker are to;
- Support the registered nurses to maintain safety of patients in the lounge
- Provide holistic and evidenced based care to all patients
- Collect patients form inpatient areas and bring them to the lounges
- Have oversight of the clinical systems used in the discharge lounges and support the registered nurses in providing oversight of patient progress through the discharge process.
- Helping support patients with hydration and nutrional needs and ensuring dietary requirement are catered for.
- Taking patients vital signs including blood glucose monitoring as requested by the registered nurse.
- Ensuring the those patients requiring help with elimination needs are supported accordingly.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts Clinical Induction Programme for Clinical Support Workers (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead ifthis is going to be problematic: rallen@nhs.net),lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling tobothTrust sites.Theprogramme includes 2 supernumerary shiftsin the clinical area (an early and a late shift),all of the other days are classroom-based andrun from 9am to 5pm
