Staff Nurse - Virtual Ward

Job summary

The role involves monitoring patients and providing treatment and care remotely, utilising state of the art technology via a Virtual Ward.

The Virtual Ward is a self-contained unit, which will allow you to develop your knowledge in respiratory pathways. We can offer you flexible working arrangements, including the opportunity to split your time between the Virtual Ward and the Respiratory Ward.

The Virtual Ward has several benefits for patients; it allows them to receive treatments and monitoring in the comfort of their own home. This, in turn, means that the Trust has the capacity to treat the sickest patients in the acute setting.

Main duties of the job

  • onitoring patients' observations and treatments remotely
  • Frequent contact with patients via video calls (similar to Microsoft Office Teams)
  • Making decisions on treatment, in accordance with agreed pathways and protocols
  • Working closely with the multidisciplinary respiratory team to identify patients who are suitable to be transferred to the Virtual Ward
  • Liaising with all services including; in-patient wards, out-patient departments, GPs, care homes, nursing homes and the local community Trust

Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ over 6,500 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)
