An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical support worker to assist with the smooth running of Outpatient clinics in Tunbridge Wells Hospital We are seeking a senior clinical support worker to work in this busy and rewarding service.

Gone are the days when the outpatient department is where you went to retire! Outpatients is being transformed and is a dynamic and innovative place to work. The service is changing rapidly to improve services for our patients, increase capacity and be sustainable for the future. We cater for a number of specialities such as medicine, surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, vascular, plastics and breast care. We have excellent staff welfare support and actively encourage staff to be involved in service improvements

Main duties of the job

We require excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must be able to demonstrate that they can work in a busy environment with a multi-disciplinary team and have excellent communication skills

You will work with the outpatient team to provide safe, effective and high quality patient care maintaining standards that meet the requirements of the Trust and the CQC.

We offer flexible working hours between 08.00 and 18.30 Monday to Friday. There are also opportunities to support additional clinics in the evenings and at weekends.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 500,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ over 6,500 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Healthcare or an equivalent healthcare qualification (competencies must have been assessed in a healthcare environment).
  • Functional skills English and maths level 2 or GCSE English and maths grades A*/9 - C/4.
  • Internal applicants only: In the absence of the above qualifications, the job holder will be required to successfully complete a level 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship within the first 18 months of employment

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as a Healthcare Support Worker or Trainee in a care setting.

Desirable

  • NHS experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers (2013).
  • Knowledge of the common conditions/illnesses/complex needs of patients within the appropriate clinical specialty.
