Job summary

The Divisional Director of Operations, Chief of Service and Interim Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology are the Women's, Children's and Sexual Health Divisional triumvirate team, and we are seeking an excellent colleague to cover the General Manager role for Women's services on a fixed term contract for one year.

The team require a high performing manager to work as part of the Directorate triumvirate and wider team. It is an opportunity for an either an experienced manager to try a different area of specialism and build on their CV or a junior manager, to be supported and mentored in developing your leadership and management skills. The role has more focus on gynaecology, but does also support aspects of maternity.

The post will support operational and strategic priorities with Divisional teams who consider themselves compassionate, motivated and ambitious to achieve the best they can for their patient's, women and their staff. The post holder will work with innovative and collaborative clinical teams to ensure all aspects of general management enable the delivery of a high standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

The General Manager, along with the Clinical Director and Matron is accountable for the delivery of the Directorate's objectives by providing the leadership, drive and direction to ensure delivery. The post holder will develop, deliver, monitor and improve services within the Directorate, meeting all national and local targets and delivering best quality patient care and experience within financial control, resources and targets.

The post holder will:

  • Agree the strategic direction and objectives of the Directorate by leading the Business Planning process on behalf of the Directorate and translating the Trust's Strategic Goals into operational plans through continuous service improvement into everyday practice.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of all services provided within the Directorate, ensuring these services are developed and lead towards the achievement of national and local objectives.
  • As a Senior Manager within the Trust be responsible for translating the performance framework and commissioning intentions as part of setting the direction of travel for the clinical activities of the Directorate. The Directorate will be managed as a business unit which includes managing and monitoring all medical staffing and non-nursing staffing issues on a day to day basis to ensure full control, prior approval and compliance.
  • Foster a culture which encourages innovation, empowerment accountability whilst engaging with their workforce to seek improvement

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 500,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ over 6,500 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.
